Pulmonology consultation
Pulmonology is a medical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
In addition to these diseases, there are other pathologies within the scope of Pulmonology that are relevant due to their high frequency, preventability and treatment – Respiratory Infections (of the Upper Airways, Tracheobronchitis, Pneumonia) – or due to their systemic involvement – Diseases of the Pulmonary Interstitium, Pulmonary Vascular Diseases, Extrapulmonary Diseases (pleural and mediastinal).
During the consultation, the specialist doctor carries out complementary tests such as spirometry, chest X-ray and tomography, cardio-respiratory study of nocturnal sleep and oximetry. Pulmonology can then, for example, intervene in the following cases:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
- Respiratory failure;
- Pulmonary tuberculosis;
- Respiratory infections;
- Lung cancer;
- Sleep apnea;
- Pneumonia;
- Bronchitis;
- Asthma.
